In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Town of Lysander has partnered with Oswego Health to launch “Wellness Wednesdays”, a new initiative aimed at encouraging movement, mindfulness, and overall wellness throughout the month of May and beyond.

As part of the initiative, Oswego Health provided 30 motivational yard signs that the Town of Lysander has placed along its walking trail. The signs feature positive, health‑focused messages designed to encourage trail users to stay active, practice mindfulness, and prioritize both mental and physical well‑being. Messages include reminders such as “Keep Going — You’re Doing Great,” “Breathe in Confidence. Exhale Stress,” and “Nature Improves Well‑Being — Enjoy the View.”

Mental Health Awareness Month, observed each May, focuses on raising awareness of mental health conditions and reducing stigma. According to national data, approximately one in five adults in the United States experiences a mental health condition each year, making community‑based initiatives that promote wellness and connection especially important.

The motivational signs also highlight evidence‑based health tips, including the importance of regular physical activity, hydration, stretching, sleep, and mindfulness. Together, the messages reinforce small, achievable steps that can have a meaningful impact on daily wellness.

Community members are encouraged to visit Lysander Park’s trail, read the messages, and take time for themselves—whether that means adding a few extra steps, practicing mindful breathing, or simply enjoying nature. Wellness Wednesdays will continue to promote awareness and healthy routines throughout May, with encouragement to carry these habits into the spring and summer seasons.
